Retro-revival

Here's the latest job off the workbench. Regular readers will recognise this pair of retro armchairs from the last post.  Here they are finished.

The job involved complete timber refinishing and reupholstery - apart from the seat cushions. These were my first 'sprung' cushions, a bit like mini mattresses (and weren't easy!).
(And just to remind you, here's the 'Before'.)

The timber, before (top) and after.

Miss Snupeson (Quality Control Officer) giving the lick of approval.

I'm pleased to say the client was absolutely delighted with the result. Here's a pic she sent of the chairs (purchased from eBay) in their new home. Pretty cosy eh?

Smart Living Expo Kiama

A quick post to let you know about a great event happening in Kiama this coming Sunday (June 3rd).
The SMART LIVING EXPO celebrates World Environment Day with a range of activities, stalls, talks, workshops and a massive car-boot sale - all promoting sustainable living.

Rapt! is taking part as an exhibitor - our very first ever 'show'. Miss Snupeson and I are very excited and more than a little nervous!
We're promoting the message "DON'T JUNK IT - FUNK IT", with the aim of encouraging people to upcycle their outdated or unwanted furniture rather than add it to landfill.
We're taking a number of items along to display (and sell) including

  • upcycled chairs,
  • a colourful clutch of brand-new POUFFOTTS (see last post)
  • a new range of DRAFT-DODGERS (for under doors) made from colourful upholstery remnants
  • FRAMED FABRIC (if there's room) - a beautiful piece of cloth fabric (currawongs on hemp). See the SHOP page for details.

If you're in the area it'd would be fantastic to see you - and if so - please do come and say g'day.

Progress Report #5

The work cracked on while I was away - even Miss Snupeson's absence didn't slow it down.

Now that we're both back on the job it shouldn't be too long now before Bottoms' End is back in action.

Progress Report #4

Miss Snupeson is extremely pleased with the progress made since last report a few weeks ago. After a stern word to the builders the pace picked up to her satisfaction, and here's what we're up to at the end of this week.

and here's a reminder of this time last year...

project report #3

After a slightly longer delay than anticipated at last report, (well... we are talking "builder promises" here,) Bottoms' End resurrection is finally up and running - Hooray!

The work is cracking along at a great pace, and Miss Snupeson is flat-out making sure nothing shoddy slips by the quality-control-monitor.
it's very tiring work for a little doggy

Project report #2

The shed frame and roof were delivered yesterday. Miss Snupeson (QC Officer) was quick to do the inspection, and I'm pleased to report, she gave it her tick lick of approval.

bottoms' end revisited

As many of you already know, Bottoms' End (the Rapt! HQ) was forced out of action earlier this year, after the 'Great Flood' went through (see post dated 23rd March 2011 ).
Things have been a little slow to get going again, following cleanup, insurance claims etc. but now we're back on track - and the long-anticipated re-building and extension program has finally started - Yippee!
The earthworks were done yesterday (a bund wall and drainage, hopefully to alleviate any future river-incursions). Here are a few pics of Miss Snupeson (QC Officer) examining the standard of work. (She gave it 4.5/5. Phew!)
